Join us for Holy Week and Easter at St. John's!

Join us for Holy Week and Easter at St. John’s!

We hope you’ll join your St. John’s family—whether virtually or in-person—in these various ways! Note: if a service is listed as “hybrid” it will be in-person and on Zoom. Click here for all Zoom connection and other information, including COVID protocols. Palm Sunday, April 10, 8:30am Morning Prayer (in-person, spoken) & 10am Eucharist (hybrid with music/children’s talk) – Experience the roller coaster and drama of Jesus’ journey from the crowds welcoming him into Jerusalem with palm branches all the way to the agony of the cross. We will bless palm crosses with those attending in-person. For those attending virtually, please join in the fun of our palm procession by lifting up a local plant from your garden or household (could be a branch, some leaves, a potted plant…)!   Maundy Thursday, April 14 – join our larger diocesan family either at one of our neighbouring deanery churches, or virtually at Christ Church Cathedral. Please be in touch directly with the churches for more information and/or to clarify any COVID protocols in place: St. Laurence – 6pm soup dinner with Eucharist. St. Stephen’s & St. Timothy’s (joint program at St. Stephen’s) – 6pm Soup Supper, 7pm Worship Service Christ Church Cathedral – See links to the livestream of the Cathedral’s 7:30pm Maundy Thursday service (and also information on other Holy Week services) Good Friday, April 15, 12noon (hybrid) – Join us on this most holy day, as we recall Jesus’ death on the cross. There will be sacred music and prayers, a time of Meditation on the Cross, and a Stations of the Cross reflection on Ukraine. Easter Sunday, April 17, 8:30am (in-person) & 10am (hybrid with children’s program) Eucharist – the most important day of the church calendar, celebrating the miracle and joy of Jesus’ new life and resurrection, with lots of festive, beautiful music and prayers at both services. There will be children’s programming at the 10am service, as well as an Easter egg hunt and coffee hour following this...

Christmas 2021 at St. John's

Christmas 2021 at St. John’s

We will have several opportunities for you and your loved ones to join us on Zoom for Christmas. (See our Program & Worship page for connection information as we move closer to the dates.). We invite you to attend Christmas services seated in front of your lit Christmas trees/decorations (or update your Zoom backgrounds to reflect a Christmas theme). And if you can, come dressed in your finest, most fun and Christmassy garb – however you want to define that! Friday Dec. 24, 7pm – Christmas Eve Family service – geared toward our younger members (and the young at heart!) and will include a telling of the story of Christmas. Friday Dec. 24, 9pm – Christmas Eve Formal service – a (slightly) more formal service of Evening Prayer including virtual music from the choir. Saturday Dec. 25, 10am – Christmas Day service – a more relaxed service of Morning Prayer to continue our celebration of Christmas with music and prayer.

How to Pre-Register for In-Person Worship

Please note the change that beginning on Nov. 14 through the end of December 2021, we are back to Zoom-only Morning Prayer each Sunday. We will be reevaluating again at the end of the year and if/when in-person worship resumes, the in-person registration process below will resume. ***** (If you are attending by Zoom, you do not need to pre-register. The Zoom link for worship can be found at https://www.stja.ca/2021/program-updates/.) To ensure enough space to safely socially distance, we are asking those who would like to attend in-person services to pre-register. Please use this link to register to attend in-person worship for the coming week – https://bit.ly/394zwHt – the link will be “live”  beginning at Sunday 5pm prior to weeks when we have hybrid services. Please submit your registration by Wednesday at 5pm to help us in our planning. Everyone who has registered by Wednesday 5pm will be notified by Thursday afternoon if we can fit you in, or if you are on a “waitlist”. Waitlist people will be contacted by Friday 2pm if there are any cancellations. If needed, you may submit a phone registration by calling and leaving a message at the parish office at 604-936-7762 (we need your name, phone number/email, who is in your household or bubble, and which service you are registering for). We encourage you to fill out the online form if you are able, to help lessen our administrative load. Note that first priority for registration will be given to those who are scheduled to volunteer that day and their households/bubbles, and then to those who have not attended the previous week. Depending on the size of households/bubbles who are able to sit together without distancing, the number of people we can fit in the church will vary – it will be roughly...
