Stewardship Reflection

From Anglican Diocese of Ontario: Stewardship Reflections, a reflection based on Deuteronomy 30: 15-20:

The passage reads in part, “Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, loving

the Lord your God, obeying God, and holding fast to God; for this means life to you…” These

words clearly speak to those who seek to live as faithful stewards.

Pastoral Message – Rod Stewart Funeral

We offer our deep condolences and prayers to parishioner Anne Stewart and her family for the recent death of Anne’s husband, Rod Stewart. A Service in Thanksgiving for Rod’s Life will be held at our parish this Tuesday, February 18, 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rod’s memory may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Property Development Committee

Property Development will continue to take priority in 2020.  Parish Council is seeking interested parties to form a part of a committee to support the parish through this process.  Please see Ruby or Geri if you are interested.

A.C.W. Meeting

The next A.C.W. meeting will be held this Thursday, February 20th at 1pm. Please remember to bring your United Thank Offering to the meeting. Funds collected will combined with other contributions throughout the Diocese and donated to outreach.

Games Night, Redux

We had soooo much fun last time, we thought “LET’S DO IT AGAIN!!!!”

Having a hard time finding someone to play chess, cribbage, Sorry, Jenga, Monopoly, Scrabble, Battleship, Operation, or other games? Always wanted to learn? Maybe play something new you’ve never heard of?

Come join us for a St. John’s Games Night this Saturday February 22, 5-8pm, downstairs in the church hall. Stay for all 3 hours or just stop by for part of the time.

We will have all sorts of card and board games for adults and kids of all ages, and lots of conversation. What a relaxing and fun chance to get to know each other! We will provide refreshments. Bring a light dinner item, snack or dessert to share if you can. We hope to see some yummy things like last time!!

Please RSVP by Monday February 17 to administrator@stja.ca  to help us plan well for space. Any questions, please email the office at administrator@stja.ca or Amalia/Brian McGlashan at mcglashanad@outlook.com.

Let’s play!!

What is World Day of Prayer? Informed Prayer. Prayerful Action. Imagine Christians from over 170 countries coming together in spirit, uniting on a common day to pray for relevant issues affecting women and children.

The movement has been active for nearly 100 years. Each year a different country writes the service materials. This year, the writing country is Zimbabwe and the theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk.” The services are very informative. Refreshments are served after the service. Learn more at https://worlddayofprayer.net/index.html

Proteins needed for St. John’s Food Bank

Protein-rich foods are often the most expensive items for families to purchase when grocery shopping. People on limited budgets often cannot afford them and make do with stodgy foods to fill stomachs. Please help those who need them by donating the following to St. John’s Food Bank.

  • tinned salmon, tuna, chicken, beef (not all can eat pork products)
  • shelf stable nut butters
  • dried or tinned beans and peas
  • powdered or shelf-stable milks
  • meaty stews or soups
  • cans of vegetables

Bring your offerings on Sunday, arrange with the office to drop off during the week, or give some money to this ministry towards the purchase of fresh products.
