NEW THIS WEEK
Stewardship Reflection

“Let the children come to me… after all, God’s domain belongs to people like that.” A faithful steward aims at and works towards simplicity — in all aspects of their life.
Interested in Improving Your Memory, Attention or Mood?
Sunday October 6 after the 10 am service
Directed by Prof. Adele Diamond of the Faculty of Medicine at UBC and supported by Fraser Health, students from UBC’s Faculty of Medicine are carrying out a study on adults 45 years and older who are experiencing some forgetfulness or attention-wandering and feeling a bit down.
The project is entitled “Possible Benefits to Mood, Quality of Life, Memory, and Executive Functions of Beloved Music with or without Social Interaction or Beloved Writings (e.g., Poetry, Stories, Psalms) for Adults Experiencing Mild Cognitive Decline.”
They will make a brief presentation to us and join us at coffee hour to answer any questions. For those on Zoom, you are welcome to join in.
Decorating the Altar for Thanksgiving Saturday Oct 12 @ 9.30 am
The Altar Guild will be decorating the Church for Thanksgiving on Saturday October 12th and donations of Fruits and Vegetables would be appreciated. These may be brought down to the Church at 9:30 am on Saturday October 12th
Apples, Oranges, Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, Squash, or Pumpkins may be considered. No soft fruits or vegetables with a ‘short shelf life’.
If you wish to do so, you may make a cash donation instead and a member of the Altar Guild will purchase the items for you. Thank you.
Following the 10:00am Thanksgiving service, you may take your donated items home with you.

Ushers for the 10am service
Urgently needed, to work in pairs, once a month. To welcome and greet parishioners & visitors and hand out the Sunday bulletin.
If you think you would like to offer your time to this important ministry, please contact Bonnie SooChan at 604-945-8465 or e-mail bsoochan@shaw.ca. It would be greatly appreciated.
Vivian attended the 125th Anniversary Gala Dinner last Saturday with her husband Bascom, with the aid of a walker at times. She thanked everyone for your continuing prayers and kind thoughts. She hopes to be back at work “real soon”!
Deepening Understanding of Reconciliation
The diocese is holding this four-week online course on Thursday, October 8, 15, 22 and 29th at 6:30pm for 90 minutes with Kerry Baisley hosting.
Learn history, listen to experiences, build relationships, and become a good ancestor. This is a course exploring core issues of reconciliation work in the diocese and farther field today.

Another option is to hold this course here at St. John’s in-person. If anyone is interested in doing so please contact Anne Anchor deacon@stja.ca and we can talk about setting a date and time that will work for all concerned.
INFORMATION
Memories
We understand that some of you would like to share your “Memories of Coming to St John”, but did not have the opportunity to do so. We will continue this sharing until the end of the year, in line with the 125 years of serving the Community. We will post your “Memories” in the E-Postle the following week. Connect with Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca should you wish to share.

Treasurer’s Note:
Though the church finances are showing positive amounts, we must be careful. Our expenses are back up to our usual, so we are now having more expenses than donations and are using up the surplus from earlier in the year.
The Spring Street Art Wall Project – Mural update
Inlet United has had an Indigenous focus mural painted on a wall of their outside entry area. There will be a Community Blessing Ceremony and Feast on Wednesday October 9th 5:30 – 7:30 to honour this work. They are looking for 2-3 blankets to be knitted/crocheted to be used that evening.
If anyone is interested, please contact their church office at offce@inletunited.ca or 604 939-5513
