NEW THIS WEEK
Stewardship Reflection
Prepared by Ven. Dr. Michael Pollesel. Matthew 20: 1-16
” I’ll pay you whatever is fair,” says the owner of the vineyard to those he hires. However, by the end of the day the payment hardly seems fair to those who have worked under the hot sun all day long. God’s generosity knows no bounds. How many times do you think to yourself: “God’s not being fair to me?” Think again!
UPDATED… NEW NEEDS
Tri-Cities Winter Shelter at St. Laurence in October (formerly Cold Wet Weather Mat)
There are many dates available for people to serve and provide morning or evening meals to the Winter Shelter during the month of October. Please speak to Anne Anchor after the service or via deacon@stja.ca or phone at 604-341-0677 and the details of dates available will be sent to you….
We have three people committed to five dates for sandwich making. The dates still available are
Monday October 2nd; Wednesday October 11th; and Thursday October 26th
Please contact Anne Anchor at deacon@stja.ca or 604-461-5677 with the date on which you would like to make sandwiches. You will be notified a couple of days before your sign-up date to be advised how many you will need to make. The sandwiches are simple protein based … i.e., cold cuts and cheese with mustard (mayonnaise may turn if it is warm weather) or simple peanut butter and jam.

Wardens’ Note:
In June, an appeal to narrow the deficit was sent out. Thanks to everyone who responded to the appeal to increase your offerings. For the first time this year, we saw a slight surplus in June.
Thanks to the efforts of the ACW and the High Tea event, our deficit in August was reduced by approximately $3,000.
Although we have kept our expenses below the Budgeted amount which reduces our deficit to date, it is important to note that even with the reduced expenses, we are still running a Year-to-Date deficit which averages $2,500.00 per month. By the end of the year, we may have an accumulated actual deficit of around $30,000.00.

HOW YOU CAN SERVE THE WORLD AROUND US
Helping Out with Children & Youth
We are looking for folks to help make our brainstormed ideas for children and youth spiritual formation a reality! We will be experimenting with fun, interactive activities for our younger members and visitors one Sunday a month beginning this September through December. If you’re interested in lending a hand on one of these Sundays, please let Janica know at administrator@stja.ca and she will connect you with clergy.
