COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR WORSHIP SERVICES

(updated 4/1/22)

  • Please monitor yourself on the day of worship, and stay home if:
    • You feel sick, for example you have a fever, cough or other unexplained flu- or cold-like symptoms, etc.
    • You or anyone in your household have had any potential or actual exposure to COVID-19 in the last 14 days
    • You are otherwise required to self-isolate because of recent travel outside of Canada or any other reason
  • Masks are mandatory (disposable masks will be available at the door as needed). Everyone will stay masked throughout the service (except when consuming communion bread).
  • We will not have capacity restrictions or required social-distancing, but you are free to choose a seat that reflects your comfort level with distance from others, as room allows.
  • The area around the altar (behind the altar rail) will be a socially-distanced area. Masks will continue to be worn in this area, i.e. during readings, intercessions, preaching, officiating, etc.
  • Please be sensitive to others’ comfort level with touch/distance when interacting before/during/after the service.
  • Congregational singing is permitted while masked.
  • You are encouraged to sanitize hands upon entry and exit of the building, and before taking communion. Officiant, Deacon, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers will sanitize hands before distributing communion.
  • There will be no passing of the offertory plate on regular Sundays for now. Please drop off your donation envelopes by the entrance. We encourage you to give online as possible at https://www.stja.ca/supporting-st-johns/.
    • NOTE: For Easter Sunday, the ushers will help pass the offertory plate to minimize touching.
  • We will have a no-touch passing of the peace, other than within your household/bubble.
  • Weather and temperature permitting, we will have fans on and some windows open to increase circulation, so please dress accordingly.
  • We will not have coffee hour at this time for regular Sundays, but you are free to visit with one another after worship. Please continue to keep your masks on when indoors.
    • NOTE: for Easter Sunday, we will have coffee hour and tables will be socially distanced from other tables. Masks are required to be kept on, unless eating and drinking. Because there may not be room for everyone to be seated, if you are eating and drinking while standing, you must maintain social distance from those around you.
