Napier Street Update
The committee has selected June Warkentin to act as our realtor for the sale of the Napier Street property after requesting proposals from four realtors put forward by the committee. After reviewing the three responses received, the committee voted on their choice. June was picked not only because of her extensive real estate experience but also because she has experience with non-profit and corporately owned properties. John Binns and June will be working together on the daily activities required to sell a Diocesan owned, tenanted property.
Godly Play
As we return to our “regularly scheduled programming”, Godly Play will be starting up again on September 9th. We have been very lucky to have many wonderful teachers and helpers over the past few years. In many ways it is beneficial for everyone, children, teachers and helpers alike, if more people are involved! That being said we are looking for anyone who feels called to support this children’s ministry at St John’s. We teach/help on a weekly rotating schedule, so the merrier! The benefit of the Godly Play program is that course books are provided to each teacher and a step by step lesson with a full script is used each week. In addition, all materials needed will be ready and waiting for you each time! Please contact Christina Anchor at clanchor15@gmail.com or speak to her in church if you would like to volunteer or have any questions.
Senior’s Tea
The next Senior’s Tea will be held on Monday September 17th at 1.30 p.m. All are welcome. If you are planning to attend please sign up on the sheet posted in the church hall.
A.C.W. Pot Luck Dinner and Meeting
Thursday, September 20th at 6 pm. Please bring a contribution to the meal to share with everyone. There will be sign-up sheets in the kitchen for set up (after food bank) and clean up. For any further information, please talk to Sue Hall or Ann Adair-Austin.
Church Library
Please check to see if you have any books at home that need to be returned to the church lending library.
Proteins needed for St. Johns Food Bank
Protein-rich foods are often the most expensive items for families to purchase when grocery shopping. People on limited budgets often cannot afford them, and make do with stodgy foods to fill stomachs. Please help those who need them by donating the following to St. Johns Food Bank in September:
- tinned salmon, tuna, chicken, beef (not all can eat pork products)
-
shelf stable nut butters
-
dried or tinned beans and peas
-
powdered or shelf stable milks
-
meaty stews or soups
Bring your offerings on Sunday, drop off during the week Monday through Thursday 9 am to 1 pm, or give some money to this ministry towards the purchase of fresh products.
Name Tags
Don’t forget to wear your name tags to help Rev. Timothy Morgan remember everyone. If you do not have a name tag, please contact Kelly Million in the office so that she can make some for you and your family.
Mission Trip to Guyana
Brenda Lou-Hing is seeking financial support for her trip to Guyana. Brenda has been volunteering for several years supporting an orphanage in Guyana. In January 2019 Brenda will be returning to Guyana to take on a volunteer position at the Children and Protection Agency. Brenda’s expenses will exceed $10,000 which she must provide herself. Several parishioners have made donations to her mission in the past. Brenda will gratefully accept donations in person but has also set up an electronic option at https://www.gofundme.com/manage/c69dx-volunteering-in-guyana/donations.
Goodie Donations for Sunday Coffee Time
Please consider donating goodies for the Sunday coffee times. There is a signup sheet in the kitchen. Even an offer of help every six months would be greatly appreciated!
Thrifty’s Smile card
The Thrifty’s Smile card fundraising is up and running for 2018. We are raising money to purchase music supplies. Use your Smile Card to support this initiative.
Counters Needed
We are actively seeking extra volunteers for Counting duties. The more people we can recruit to share these duties, the easier it is for everyone. Thank you to those who have already come forward. If you feel that you can serve in this ministry, please contact Joan Scott at the following email if you would like to volunteer. scott.joan@hotmail.com
Flowers for the Altar
The Altar Guild would like to draw your attention to the flower chart in the Narthex by the Chapel door. Please consider signing up to place flowers at the Altar in thanksgiving for something, or in loving memory of a family member or friend. A member of the Altar Guild will contact you the week before the date you have chosen to see what type of flowers you would like and the wording for the Bulletin. The following weeks are still open October 21 & 28, November 25, December 23. Thank you.
The Primate’s World RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT Fund
The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund has sent an emergency grant of $5,000 to the Diocese of the Yukon to support the people of Telegraph Creek. If you wish to donate, please log on the PWRDF website to do so, or phone, or mail a cheque. https://pwrdf.org/donate/how-to-donate/

We need more volunteers for this ministry. You will only need to put in 2 hours every 4 weeks.
