Maundy Thursday Supper & Worship – April 18, 6pm

All are welcome at our Maundy Thursday worship service on Thursday, April 18, as we remember together Jesus’ last supper with his disciples where he taught them about service, sacrifice, and love. We’ll begin with a simple supper in our downstairs hall at 6pm, with Bible readings and reflection, followed by foot-washing for those who would like to participate. We’ll then move upstairs to the church for Eucharist and the solemn Stripping of the Altar. The church and chapel will be available for private prayer afterward.

You’re invited to join the St. John’s family as we begin Holy Week together this Palm Sunday, April 14, at our 8:30am (spoken service) and 10am (with choir and children’s programming) worship. We’ll be experiencing the roller coaster and drama of Jesus’ journey from the crowds welcoming him into Jerusalem with palm branches all the way to the agony of the cross. There will be beautiful prayers and palm crosses for everyone to take home.

All Souls Night – Thursday November 2, 7:30 to 9:30 pm

Pray for the souls of the world In the darkness of the turning of the year, we remember those who have died.  Come enter a sacred space and lift them up to God. Whether there are recent losses for you among family or friends, or whether you want to honour victims of violence and disaster in our world, here is a time to remember and to hope.  We light our candles against the darkness and proclaim that love is stronger than death, and that peace and justice will prevail. “But the souls of the righteous are in the hands of God, and no torment will ever touch them.  In the eyes of the foolish they seem to have died, and their departure from us was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction, but they are at peace.”  Wisdom 3: 1-3     In the darkness of our times, pray for the souls of the world Drop in to the church 7:30 to 9:30 pm Walk on our indoor labyrinth Light a candle and add a name or prayer to a wall of remembrance Experience Sung Holden Evening Prayer 9-9:30 pm st. john the apostle church 2208 St. Johns Street Port Moody, BC 604-936-7762 www.stja.ca Sunday services 8:30 & 10 am

Deanery Picnic at Blue Mountain Park

On Sunday June 25, 2017, Anglicans from across the Tri-Cities North Burnaby Deanery will be gathering for worship, food, and fun at Blue Mountain Park in Coquitlam.  The festivities begin at 11:30 am with a joint worship.  There will be a regular 8:30 am service and shortened 10 am service at St. Johns this day to allow people to choose to either come and have Eucharist here first or sleep in J and go directly to the park.  Following a “Prayer and Praise” in the park, lunch will be shared at the picnic shelters.  Participants are invited to bring lunch for themselves and something to share, e.g. vegetable sticks, cookies, watermelon, cheese and crackers, drinks.  That way, any guests or newcomers can be warmly invited to attend and to eat, drink, and be merry!  Those who have outdoor games suitable for any age are encouraged to bring them along (perhaps mark your name and phone number on the equipment).  Lawn darts or full contact croquet, anyone?
