Let’s Bag Hunger Campaign Kicks Off – Please help us to stock the shelves for the St John’s Food Bank.

Let’s Bag Hunger!        Please help us to stock the shelves for the St John’s Food Bank. Due to the cost of foods received from Quest doubling, the poor variety of foods on their list and the added fact that they now charge us $75.00 for a delivery charge, (cost has increased from $175.00 to $425.00!) we have come to the decision that we need to rely on local suppliers to buy food for the Food Bank and also take advantage of advertised sales. For the month of July there will be an opportunity for parish members to fill a grocery bag with non – perishable items for the St John’s Food Bank. Grocery bags will be available at the back of the Church during this time. We feed about 40 families at the current time. Items needed to fill the Food Bank shelves are: Canned goods such as: Soup, Tuna, Salmon, Fruits, Vegetables and Tomatoes. Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Macaroni and Cheese, Instant Noodles, Cereals, Granola bars, Cookies, Juice. Smaller sized jars approx. 750 g. or less of peanut butter and Jam are preferable. Large bags of flour, sugar, rolled oats and rice are also useful as they can be repackaged into bags of smaller amounts to distribute. The Food Bank is a way for St. John’s to reach out to those less fortunate in our community and every donation is greatly

MARK YOUR CALENDARS – Envisioning our Future – July 9, 2016: 9 am to Noon

MARK YOUR CALENDARS – Envisioning our Future – July 9, 2016: 9am to Noon followed by Potluck Lunch  Come join your fellow parishioners to discuss a new vision and mission for St. John the Apostle, Port Moody. Who is God calling us to be and do here at St. John’s. Why are we doing this now? Two good reasons: Our current vision and mission statements were developed several years ago – before the merger with St. Margaret of Scotland and with even more growth since then, it is time to review. At the Annual Vestry Meeting in February, a motion was passed to get further input from the parish before proceeding with renovations to the church. This will accomplish that goal as well.  We will have an external facilitator from the Diocesan Consulting Group, who will lead us through the process on July 9. After that, the Parish Council will review the input and prepare a preliminary draft for a new vision and mission for review by the parish after the 10:00 am service on Sunday, September 18th.  We need as much input as possible. Please register for this important event in the life of the parish. Sign-up sheets will be downstairs in the parish hall. We need help with set-up  and take-down/clean-up. For lunch, please bring some finger foods to share with others. Please indicate what you are bringing on the sign-up sheet.

Property Review

At the Annual Vestry meeting on February 28, a motion was passed directing the Parish Council to engage the parish to revisit the church renovation planning before moving ahead with any further investigation. Accordingly, at its meeting on March 21, 2016, the Parish Council unanimously approved a motion to disband the Property Review Committee. The Parish Council also unanimously approved a motion thanking the members of the Property Review Committee (Sue Hall, Mary Lou Kyle, Tony Pellett, Maureen Simons and John Binns) for their hard work. The Parish Council will communicate plans to engage the parish on this topic once the plans are finalized.
