The Path of Wisdom and Grace Workshop: Spiritual Growth and Purpose in Aging
Saturday, November 30, 2024 :9:30 am to 2:30 pm @ St Stephen the Martyr, 9887 Cameron St, Burnaby
You are warmly invited to join us for the empowering and transformative workshop, “The Path of Wisdom and Grace: Spiritual Growth and Purpose in Aging.”
There is no cost for this event. A free will offering will be collected to cover the costs of lunch. A simple lunch (soup and bun) will be provided.

Annual Advent Wreath Workshop
December 1, 2024: First Sunday of Advent, after the 10am service.
The wreath foundation, in a container, and greenery will be provided. Please feel free to bring any interesting foliage from your garden, clippers or pruning shears, and 5 candles (these are usually purple or blue, but white can also be used). We will be collecting donations for costs of materials.

Butternut Squash Night: Saturday November 16, 2024 – 5.30 pm.
We have an amazing harvest of butternut squash from the Community Garden. “The Garden Committee” is putting up a feast of all-things butternut, starting with soup, followed by cottage pie, savory & sweet muffins, cupcakes and possibly some other treats. $8 per person and proceeds are going to the garden management fund. If you have not signed up, come anyway.

ACW meeting: Thursday November 21. 2024 – 1pm
We will be collecting items for the Mission to Seafarers ‘Christmas at Sea’ outreach.
Donations of toques, gloves, neck warmers (no scarves please), toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, chocolates and candy will be very much appreciated. We are also donating warm socks, (not white or ankle length, and preferably a wool blend). These will be delivered to the Mission which will distribute them among the seafarers who come into the Vancouver port over the Christmas Season. If you wish to participate in this outreach, there will be a couple of baskets at the back of the church to collect these items. The deadline for donations is November 24th. UPDATE…Deepening Understanding of Reconciliation – In person
Saturdays – November 23 & 30 and December 7, 2024
Learn history, listen to experiences, build relationships, and become a good ancestor. This is a course exploring core issues surrounding reconciliation. It looks at the history of The Doctrine of Discovery; Residential Schools; Sixties Scoop; and brings us to today with Being a Good Ancestor.

Stewardship Reminder/Pledge Sunday

Laurie Fox will be speaking about “What Stewardship means, Why she decided on returning to church, Why is the community important, Why we need to take pledging seriously so that we can plan the future of this community that has been here for us as we journey through our life”.

Closing Service and Potluck: Sunday, November 17, 2024
A special service to close off the celebrations for the 125th Anniversary of St John’s, followed by a Potluck lunch after the 10 am service. It has been suggested that we have a melting pot of cuisines with the diverse cultures that we have. You may bring a dish from your ethnic background and wear a national dress/shirt.
Cold Weather Shelter- Information Session: Saturday, November 30, 2-24: 10:00 – 12:00
St. Laurence Anglican in Coquitlam is hosting the Cold Weather Shelter in February 2025. They will be holding an information session for anyone who may be interested in preparing or serving a breakfast or a dinner during the month of February or helping out in other ways for the month.
We will be offering some days for individuals of the parish to sign up to make sandwiches throughout the month, more info to follow closer to February. We will also be collecting sundry food items at that time.
Commemorative T-shirts
A very generous parishioner has commissioned some T-Shirts to be made in celebration of St John’s 125th Anniversary. They are on sale for $35 for sweatshirts and $30 for T-shirts. All proceeds will go to the church fund-raising. Please approach Ruby should you wish to buy one.

Ushers for the 10am service
Urgently needed, to work in pairs, once a month. To welcome and greet parishioners & visitors and hand out the Sunday bulletin.
