Stewardship Reflection

Prepared by Ven. Dr. M. Pollesel John 15:26-27 16: 4B- 15

“The spirit of truth will guide you,” Jesus tells his followers. As faithful stewards, do we ask for and follow the Spirit’s guidance in our day to day interactions?

Bishop’s Visit

Set up – We desperately need help to set up tables and chairs on Saturday 25 May at 10 am, and to clean up after lunch on Sunday. If you have not already done so, please sign-up on the sheets on the wall of the hall.

We would also like a contribution of a cheese plate, please.

Name Badges

We request all to wear a name badge (label) for the service. Please have the ushers provide you with one before the service.

Spring Tea Update

Thank you to everyone who helped to make Spring Tea 2024 a tremendous success. We continued with sales of baked goods, plants, jewelry, and crafts after the Sunday services for those who did not have a chance to attend the event on Saturday. Total sales came to $2,509.35.

Pentecost Sunday – 19 May 2024

If you’ve got RED – wear it. The traditional understanding of wearing RED for the Day of Pentecost is that it represents the fiery tongues that descended on the Apostles when they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. As the Holy Spirit breathed new life into the Apostles to go out into the world so we choose to wear red to represent that we are living our lives out loud – living out loud the Love of God who is freedom, who is acceptance, who is peace. Be bold about Love.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE PART OF ST JOHN’S

Vignettes from parishioners of the parish being offered throughout the year of the 125th Anniversary celebrations. If you are asked to offer one week, please accept so that we may get to know a bit more about our friends in the pews. Please forward a written copy to news@stja.ca thereafter. These will be posted in the E-Postle as well as a compilation for print later in the year.

Janice Castle’s Memories of Coming to St John – 12 May 2024

Janice shared a favourite poem that she has had for many years, on this special day of celebrating mothers.

AS I SIT IN HEAVEN

As I sit in heaven

And watch you everyday

I try to let you know with signs

I never went away

I hear you when you’re laughing

And watch you as you sleep

I even place my arms around you

To calm you as you weep

I see you wish the days away

Begging to have me home

So I try to send you signs

So you know you are not alone

Don’t feel guilty that you have

Life that was denied to me

Heaven is truly beautiful

Just you wait and see

So live your life, laugh again

Enjoy yourself, be free

Then I know with every breath you take

You’ll be taking one for me… SHARE

Hold tight to memories for comfort,

lean on your friends for strength,

and always remember

how much you are cared about.
