NEW THIS WEEK

Stewardship Reflection

Mark 1: 4-11 Prepared by Ven. Dr. Michael Pollesel

” I fully approve of you”, are the words Jesus hears when he is baptized. Do you think that a faithful steward can expect to hear similar words at some point in their journey?

Guest Priest this Sunday

Sunday January 7, 2024.

We are grateful to Rev. Dr. John Bailey who will serve as guest presider and preacher at both services.

ACW AGM

Thursday 18 January 2024 at 1 pm

We will be electing our executive and assigning auxiliary positions (sunshine box, publicity etc.) during this meeting.

Reminder to bring in some home baked goodies to send to the Mission to Seafarers.

Clothing Swap Meet

Saturday 27 January 2024, 3 – 6 pm

A resident from the Tri-City community aims to reduce textile waste from landfills and donation centers is starting a social experiment. She is organizing a clothing swap here at St John’s parish hall on the above date & time.  The objective is to reduce textile waste (one of the top polluters and climate change problems) by bringing the community together to share and swap.

You may bring your pre-loved clothes that you no longer need or use, but are too good to dispose of. These clothes should be ready to wear by someone else. In return, you can take as many items as you want from the swap. Clothing should be freshly clean, with no tears, rips, or stains, and limited to adults and children. No baby clothes please.

You can drop off your ready-to-wear pre-loved clothes at the hall, or bring it on the day of the swap.

There is no charge for this event. If you are interested to participate, please register your interest with Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca

St. Johns 125th Anniversary

Sunday 28 January 2024

It’s 2024 already. To kick off the celebrations, we are having a special service to commemorate the year.  We were thinking it might be good to encourage people attending the service to wear period costume, preferably for 1899, when the church was founded although any fashions from the past are encouraged.

Chinese New Year lunch

Sunday 11 Feb 2024

To usher in the Year of the Dragon, celebration lunch at Lougheed Wonton restaurant following the 10 am service. We are working with the restaurant in pricing and will post details soon.
