NEW THIS WEEK

Stewardship Reflection

John 1: 43-51. Prepared by R. Dr. Michael Pollesel

” Come and see,” says Philip to Nathanael. As those who have experienced something Jesus, how do we “take care”’ by sharing and spreading the word of our experience?

Offertory Envelopes

They are ready for collection and are at the back of the church. Please note that as more people have switched to Pre-authorized Deductions and E-transfers, we have redesignated numbers and you may have a different one from last year. So, do take care when you pick up yours.

St. Johns 125th Anniversary

Sunday 28 January 2024

We will be having a special service to honour 125 years of St. John’s serving the community of Port Moody. This will be the first of three events throughout the year.

To add a touch of nostalgia to the service we encourage people to wear attire that is symbolic of years gone by, especially 1899. It might be fun to have some attired also in various fashions from the past 125 years… such as the hippie ‘60s that many of us remember!!

There will also be a potluck luncheon after the 10:00 service. There is a sign-up sheet with a menu on the the stage panels in the hall.

 Christian Unity Luncheon
Saturday 20 January, 2024 at Noon.
Location: All Saints Parish, 821 Fairfax Street, Coquitlam

This event is hosted by St. Joseph’s, Port Moody and All Saints, Coquitlam. If you would like to attend, please contact Ann Adair-Austin (604 936 7256) by Jan 14th, as they need to know how many people to plan for.

Annual Vestry reports

Just a reminder to all ministry leaders that Annual Vestry reports need to be submitted soon. Please send them to Janica at administrator@stja.ca by Thursday, 1 February, 2024.

HOW YOU CAN SERVE OUR COMMUNITY

New Council Members

As we prepare for Vestry to be held on Sunday 18 February, following the 10am service, we are seeking 2 more council members to form the leadership team. If you feel that you could serve the church and this community of faith in some way, please consider becoming a Council member.

If you have interest in contributing to the ever-growing needs of our parish, please connect with Anne, Rich or Ruby.

ACW AGM

Thursday 18 January 2024 at 1 pm

We will be electing our executive and assigning auxiliary positions (sunshine box, publicity etc.) during this meeting.

Reminder to bring in some home baked goodies to send to the Mission to Seafarers.

INFORMATION

Clothing Swap Meet

Saturday 27 January 2024, 3 – 6 pm

A resident from the Tri-City community aims to reduce textile waste from landfills and donation centers is starting a social experiment. She is organizing a clothing swap here at St John’s parish hall on the above date & time.  The objective is to reduce textile waste (one of the top polluters and climate change problems) by bringing the community together to share and swap.

You may bring your pre-loved clothes that you no longer need or use, but are too good to dispose of. These clothes should be ready to wear by someone else. In return, you can take as many items as you want from the swap. Clothing should be freshly clean, with no tears, rips, or stains, and limited to adults and children. No baby clothes please.

You can drop off your ready-to-wear pre-loved clothes at the hall, or bring it on the day of the swap.

There is no charge for this event. If you are interested to participate, please register your interest with Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca

Chinese New Year lunch

Sunday 11 Feb 2024

To usher in the Year of the Dragon, celebration lunch at Lougheed Wonton restaurant following the 10 am service. We are working with the restaurant in pricing and will post details soon.
