Bible Study Tuesday beginning Feb. 20th at 10:30am.
The Bible Study Group will be studying a book this Lent titled Healing our Broken Humanity by Grace Kim and Graham Hill-Practices for Revitalizing the Church and Renewing the World.
From the review on Amazon ….’We live in conflicted times. Our newsfeeds are filled with inequality, division, and fear. We want to make a difference and see justice restored because Jesus calls us to be a peacemaking and reconciling people. But how do we do this? Based on their work with diverse churches, colleges, and other organization, Grace Ji-Sun Kim and Graham Hill offer Christian practices that can bring healing and hope to a broken world. They provide ten ways to transform society, from lament and repentance to relinquishing power, reinforcing agency, and more….’
Any are welcome to join this study, please let Anne Anchor at deacon@stja.ca know asap so the books can be ordered. Partial cost will be covered through the Baptismal Ministry Education Fund.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE PART OF ST JOHN
Maureen Simons – 4 February 2024 @ 10 am service
My husband, Jon Simons – who many of you knew – and I moved back to Port Moody from Calgary over 22 years ago now.
I was attending an Anglican church in Calgary and had just completed the first year of Education for Ministry (EfM). If you are not aware of the Ef M program, it is a 4-year program is designed for lay people and in which you dig deep into faith. St. John’s has had an EfM program for 23 years. Anne Anchor and Debora Jones-Akiyama are the leaders of the group, which is now a The Tri-Cities/Burnaby Deanery Group at St John’s.
I was very excited to learn that St. John’s had a EfM program so that I could continue the program. I contacted Anne Anchor (I think before I even got here) and I am fairly sure that my enthusiasm was a bit overwhelming.
I felt a warm welcome from this faith community from the start. When Jon died, our church family held me – in prayer and in hugs. They also rejoiced with me when I later married Michael. They have held me and Michael in prayers through recent health issues.
I’m proud to have served at the altar in various roles and to have served on Parish Council and as Peoples’ Warden and I’m grateful for all who are serving in some way in this place.

Treasurer’s Note
A great big thank you to all parishioners for your hard work and generous hearts. Due to the monies raised at the bazaar and the extra donations at Christmas time, the last two months have been in the “black”. I am happy to say that at the end of the year, the deficit will only be around $10,000, instead of the projected $40,000, which is a great improvement over the last three years.
