NEW THIS WEEK:

Stewardship Reflection

Prepared by the Ven. Dr. Michael Pollesel. Matthew 9:9-13,18-26.

Isn’t it ironic how those who were deemed to be on the “outside”—sinners and toll collectors—always seemed to find where Jesus was and wanted to be near him. As a faithful steward, how much time do you make to be with Jesus on a regular basis?

Pastoral Note – Nicholas Fung

As announced by email earlier this week, parishioner Nicholas Fung died unexpectedly last weekend. The funeral service will take place at St. John’s this Saturday, June 17, 1pm. The Zoom connection for the service will be listed here.

If you can help this Friday, June 16, with setup of the Parish Hall for the funeral reception or takedown of chairs/tables after the reception on Saturday, please connect with Antoinette Woodman in person this Sunday or via toni.woodman@shaw.ca.

We pray that Nicholas will rest in God’s peace. As we grieve this loss together, please also hold May, Nigel, and their wider family in your prayers in this most difficult time. Sympathy cards may be sent to the family via the parish office.

Pastoral Note – Tom Griffith

We are sad to announce that Tom Griffith, husband of parishioner Roberta Oehlschlager, died this past week. We pray that Tom would rest in God’s peace; please keep Roberta and the wider family in your prayers as they grieve. Sympathy cards may be sent to the family via the parish office.

Help Needed with Hot Dog/Hamburger Buns

Our parish is helping to store buns being donated for the June 21 National Indigenous Peoples Day feast at Rocky Point Park. We are looking for volunteers to come by the church on a few mornings to transfer buns to our freezers as they are delivered, and to be at the church to facilitate final pickup of all the buns for the event. Please contact Vivian in-person or at rector@stja.ca if you can assist.

Music Director Transition

As announced at last Sunday’s worship services, LaRee Mohr will be resigning as Music Director at St. John’s in a few weeks. Her last day with us in this position will be Sunday, June 25. She has served in this role for well over 12 years, and we will miss her dearly.

New Office Administrator + June Adjusted Office Hours

We are pleased to welcome Georgette Prado, who began as temporary Office Administrator this Friday June 9. We thank Joanne Fong for serving in this role for the past six months and wish her all the best. For the rest of June, office hours will be changed slightly: Tuesdays 1-5pm, and Thursdays and Fridays 10am-2pm.

Spring Tea Thanks

Congratulations to the ACW for their amazing fundraising through the Spring Tea – a record-breaking $2,061! Thank you to Ruby Ng, Ferne Malcolm, and the rest of the ACW and all other parishioners who helped, for all their hard work putting together this event, especially given the challenges of a postponed date.

Pastoral Note re: Executive Archdeacon

The Bishop has issued a pastoral letter here re: the health status of the Ven. Philippa Pride, our diocese’s Executive Archdeacon. Please hold Philippa in your prayers in this challenging time and pray for the diocese as we adjust to the situation and support her in this time.

Anglican Summer Jobs for Youth/Young Adults

Looking for a shorter gig? Camp Aspire VBS in Vancouver is hiring for two more positions July 17-21. It will be a week of bible story, art, and nature. Contact lauren@thecathedral.ca for info on positions available.

HOW YOU CAN SERVE THE WORLD AROUND US

Volunteering June 21 @ Indigenous Peoples Day Events

The Port Moody Ecological Society and the “In the Presence of Ancestors” Project are looking for enthusiastic people to volunteer on June 21 for the National Indigenous Peoples Day festivities at Rocky Point Park.

They are looking for people who can help them set up in the afternoon, and people who would help greet guests and serve them food during the free feast. They will also need people to help them clear the park at the end of the evening.

This is sure to be an amazing day, and a lot of fun for everyone involved! If you’d like to be involved, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Tracey Schaeffer at volunteer.pofaproject@gmail.com.

More festivities information can be found via the Noons Creek Hatchery Facebook and the Eventbrite page.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR FORMATION AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH FOR ALL AGES

Area Vacation Bible School – July 10-14

St. Laurence Anglican and Good Shepherd Lutheran in Coquitlam are partnering to lead Vacation Bible School this year. Kids ages 4-11 are invited to journey with Daniel in ancient Babylon as we learn what it means to be courageous and have integrity in the face of difficulty…and have a whole lot of fun. VBS will be five mornings, July 10-14, from 9-12 noon at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1504 Sprice Ave., Coquitlam. Contact Jason Wood, St. Laurence’s Youth and Family Minister, at stlyouthandfam@gmail.com to register.

Also, if you are interested in volunteering, they are looking for a variety of roles: leaders for small groups, crafts, drama, and games; help in decorating, and in the kitchen. Please connect with Jason above to offer your assistance.
