COVID Protocols
As COVID infections become more common, and as we enter cold/flu season, please continue to be vigilant. Watch for symptoms and stay home if unwell. Help us to care for our community and let the clergy or wardens know if you’ve tested positive after being at church, so that we can notify folks of any major potential exposures.
Parish Council reviewed our current safety protocols at our Sept. 20 meeting and the majority of protocols will remain the same, including:
- Masks are required at worship, and optional at coffee hour
- People notify the office of their time in the buildings for contact tracing.
- Parish user groups determine their own safety protocols for gatherings/events, using the worship protocols as a base guideline.
Changes/Additions
- Communion wine will be offered again soon, after logistics have been worked out. People are free to continue only taking the bread.
- An alert to the parish list will go out if we are aware of 3 or more households with a positive COVID infection after being at church recently.
Community Garden
Council has submitted “An Intent to Apply” for a Parish Development Grant to repurpose the PMC front lawn to make available ‘food’ garden plots. The objectives are to connect the community to our space while supporting food security; return areas around the garden beds to native BC plants which would help in recovering the land to a more natural habitat for birds, insects or animals; and advancing climate change efforts by replacing grass with food crops.
The Diocese has reviewed and now invites us to submit a full application by early October.
Anniversary Fundraising Event
St. Joseph’s Port Moody is inviting St. John’s to join them in celebrating their 110th Anniversary, at an event which includes dinner and entertainment. It will be on Sunday Oct. 16 from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School in Port Coquitlam.
Reservations for tickets are needed by Oct. 5 at $35 each ($18 for youth under 16 years). This is a fundraising event for a new building project for St. Joseph’s. Please contact Ann Adair-Austin for more information or to book your tickets.

Professor Dr. Amy Zildulka will workshop collaborative and creative techniques to help us imagine new ways for our parishes—individually and collaboratively—to address 3 pressing issues (pick one) facing our region today: Housing and Homelessness, Climate Justice, or Spiritual Development.
Spring Street Community Kitchen in partnership with Inlet United
Next Zoom kitchen this Thursday, Sept. 29, 6-7pm, featuring soup and biscuits. Pre-registration info at the Facebook event page. Donations supporting our Spring Street Community Kitchen are being re-gifted to the communities we serve. September donations will benefit the Elizabeth Fry Society. Please give online here and designate your gift to our Community Kitchen project.
E-Postle Volunteers
We are still seeking someone able to help with putting together the E-postle each week. Please connect with Anne at deacon@stja.ca or Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca if you have a few hours to spare and are interested in this very important ministry.
