SPECIAL PRAYERS

Please continue to hold in your prayers the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, Saskatchewan as they process their grief at the stabbings last week. Also pray for the young men involved in the stabbings and their families.

Queen Elizabeth II’s Passing

From the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver in the absence of Bishop John:

“It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Please hold her and all the Royal Family in your prayers. Please pray for King Charles. I invite every parish in their prayers to remember the Queen with thanksgiving and to pray for the Royal Family in their grief and the transition of the monarchy in coming days.”

Please note that plans are being made for a special service of commemoration for Queen Elizabeth at the Cathedral upon the return of Bishop John from the Philippines.

Please also see statements on the death of Her Majesty the Queen from the Archbishop of Canterbury and from the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada. A national Anglican memorial service will be held in Toronto, after the official funeral in the U.K. and the national civic commemorative ceremony in Canada. This service will be livestreamed on www.anglican.ca—date and time to be announced.

Rector’s Note

Hello everyone,

I’m back! ? I’m looking forward to saying this personally to all of you, but in the meantime, just a note to say thank you to everyone for your wonderful, living-into-the-Body-of-Christ caring for me through prayers, encouragement, and other practical supports in my roughly 10 months of cancer treatment. It has been both hard to be away from you all while on leave these past 4.5 months, and also exactly what I needed in order to have the time and space to finish my last treatment steps of surgery and radiation. Thank you for your warm embrace of Angus as interim priest, and for your patience as my leave was unexpectedly extended. In these next several weeks, I will be easing back into work. I ask for your understanding and support as I care for my immune system as it ramps back up to normal, as I work on living into more and more sustainable ways of doing ministry, and as I continue to heal and return to full health.

l am grateful to God for being with me on every step of this journey, and for each and every one of you as you have walked alongside, reflecting to me God’s love. Thank you and see you soon.

Peace,

Vivian

THIS SUNDAY – September 11, 2022

Blessing for New School Year

We will offer a special blessing for the new school year at both the 8:30am and 10am services this Sunday, Sept. 11. Join us as we pray for educators and students—both in our parish and in our wider circles—as they begin this new year.

Back-to-Church BBQ

To mark the end of school holidays as well as to honor Vivian’s return from medical leave. Please bring an appetizer or a dessert to share, if you wish. “Purple Spoon and Crown” will be awarded to the best dessert.

Should you be interested to join in the celebrations but have not registered, please email Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca.

Pressure Washer

We are looking for sponsors/contributions to buy a new one. A hardy one would cost around $500. Any amount towards this will be greatly appreciated. Tax-exempt receipts will be issued.

ACW

The ACWinvites all women of the parish to their first meeting of the fall at 6pm Sept 15. There will be a Chinese dinner from Woking Dragon, price is $20 each.
Please advise Sue Hall at sbhkaylacat@gmail.com  by Sept 11.

Spring Street Community Kitchen

We are back from summer and the next “showtime” is taking place on Zoom, September 29 from 6pm – 7pm. Soups and biscuits will be featured.

Parish Giving

If you wish to e-transfer your contributions directly to the church account, please contact Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca or Sheila at treasurer@stja.ca for more details. There are also links on our website if you would prefer to donate by PayPal or Credit Card.

E-Postle Volunteers Needed

We are still looking for a replacement to help with putting together the E-postle each week, as well as work on improving layout and design and other aspects of our newsletter. Please connect with Anne at deacon@stja.ca or Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca if you are interested in joining this very important ministry.

Refugee ReSponse

Six Volunteers sought to help new refugees assimilate.

Please consider adding your name to the sign-up sheet, posted in the church hall, or let the wardens, Deanna at administrator@stja.ca , Mary (10 am service) or Karlis (8.30 am service) know if you would like to be part of this worthy ministry.
