We are saddened to see the devastation and destruction wrought by Hurricane Fiona on so many communities in the Atlantic Provinces and Magdalen Islands in Quebec; the stories of loss and survival are cause for prayer. Please pray for all in the affected communities.

To make a financial donation, go to pwrdf.org/give-today and choose Hurricane Fiona; call 1-866-308-7973; or mail a cheque to PWRDF, 80 Hayden Street, 3rd floor, Toronto, ON, M4Y 3G2.

INFORMATION

COVID Protocols

We ask that all still remain vigilant in regards to COVID infections. By staying home if you are unwell and letting the clergy or wardens know if you have tested positive, we will avoid further spread in our community.

Highlights of Current Protocols:

  • Masks required at worship (optional for readers/intercessors/preachers), and optional at coffee hour.
  • People notify the office of their time in the buildings for contact tracing.
  • Parish user groups determine their own safety protocols for gatherings/events, using the worship protocols as a base guideline.
  • An alert to the parish list will go out if we are aware of 3 or more households with a positive COVID infection after being at church recently.
  • Note: Communion wine will begin to be offered again soon. People are free to continue only receiving the bread.

Community Garden

Council will be submitting a Parish Development Grant proposal to repurpose the PMC front lawn to make available ‘food’ garden plots. This is a growing need in Port Moody and we hope to help meet this need as well as provide better and improved use of this property.

Anniversary Fundraising Event

St. Joseph’s Port Moody is inviting St. John’s to join them in celebrating their 110th Anniversary, at an event which includes dinner and entertainment. It will be on Sunday Oct. 16 from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School in Port Coquitlam.

Reservations for tickets are needed by Oct. 5 at $35 each ($18 for youth under 16 years). This is a fundraising event for a new building project for St. Joseph’s. Please contact Ann Adair-Austin for more information or to book your tickets.

Wardens’ Note

With fewer people attending in-person worship, our contributions are at a lower level than in the past. We’re writing today to ensure that everyone is aware of the current financial situation we are facing. Please take some time to prayerfully discern whether you are able to contribute a little more to assist the parish and the wider community as we follow our mission. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Parish Giving

Can be made through e-transfer directly to the church account, please contact Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca or Sheila at treasurer@stja.ca for more details.

Diocesan Mission & Ministry Conference

The event page contains more info including registration. Open to anyone, on Sat. Oct. 15, 10am-4pm at St. Dunstan’s Aldergrove. Professor Dr. Amy Zildulka will lead us in collaborative and creative techniques to help us imagine new ways for our parishes—individually and collaboratively—to address 3 pressing issues facing our region today: Housing and Homelessness, Climate Justice, or Spiritual Development. If you are interested to carpool, please connect with Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca
