Stewardship Letter

A stewardship letter was emailed this week (and mailed to those without emails on file). We invite you to return your Financial Pledge Forms by All Saints’ Sunday, November 6, and pray about how you might give of your time and talents in 2023. You may also download the letter and pledge form from our website.

The Ballantyne Project Donation Drive

Dwight Ballantyne benefitted from the Birds’ Nest project that we at St. John’s supported a few years back, that helped First Nations youth pursue opportunities in education and work. Dwight founded The Ballantyne Project in 2019 with a goal to raise awareness about the unique challenges and barriers faced by youth living in remote First Nations. He shares his story of growing up in Montreal Lake Cree Nation for 21 years, and he is in a rare position to shed light on this segment of our population that rarely makes it into textbooks, media, or social conversation.

Dwight is currently holding a donation drive to purchase much-needed items for children of the Lytton First Nation School who have limited clothing after being displaced due to the forest fire last year.  Please log on to the Ballantyne Project website to learn more and, if able, click on the donate button to help Dwight further his cause.

Church Pews Adjustment

As more people participate again in in-person worship, and as we anticipate needing a little more space with the reintroduction of communion wine in a few weeks, we are experimenting a little with the layout of pews in the sanctuary. Check out our new, improved wider center aisle this Sunday!

Deanna’s Departure

We are sad to announce that after just shy of 2 years of faithful ministry with us, our Office Administrator Deanna Lemke will be leaving us, as she moves out of the area. Her last day will be Thursday, Nov. 10. We are in the process of arranging for temporary office coverage upon her departure.

We are so grateful for Deanna’s wonderful presence and her work supporting all that goes on at St. John’s, and we wish her God’s blessings in her new home. She wanted to let everyone know: “I have enjoyed working with such kind people and am grateful for my time with St. John the Apostle.”

Rector Away

Vivian will be attending a conference and taking some vacation time from Monday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 28. Please connect with Ruby at peopleswarden@stja.ca or Rich at rectorswarden@stja.ca for time-sensitive parish matters during this time.

For pastoral emergencies, to be connected to the on-call priest, please call Ruby.

We are grateful to the Rev. Georgina Harris who will serve as supply clergy on Oct. 23.

Office Closure

The office will be closed from this Friday Oct. 21 – Monday Oct. 31, as Deanna is away. The wardens will attend to parish matters during this time.

Refugee Sponsorship Information Meeting

Wednesday October 19 @ 7 pm.

St. Laurence Anglican Church Hall, 825 St. Laurence Street, Coquitlam

You are invited to attend a session on helping refugees settle in Canada. This is an information meeting only and you will not be pressured to volunteer. Please come and learn how to help those who have been displaced from their homes settle and make a new home in Canada.

The foreigners residing among you must be treated as native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt… Leviticus 19:34

Ministry Conference with Sarah Bessey

Inlet United Church invites you to “Bold Witness, Relentless Grace”, an inspiring, late-autumn 3-day conference from November 4-6, featuring Canadian writer and acclaimed author Sarah Bessey and other wonderful ministry leaders. People will gather in-person at Inlet, and they will livestream the conference from Calgary. For registration and more information visit the Inlet website

COVID Protocols

We ask that all still remain vigilant in regards to COVID infections. By staying home if you are unwell and letting the clergy or wardens know if you have tested positive, we will avoid further spread in our community. Masks are required at worship.

Financial Status – Wardens’ Note

With fewer people attending in-person worship, our contributions are at a lower level than in the past. We’re writing to ensure that everyone is aware of the current financial situation we are facing. Please take some time to prayerfully discern whether you are able to contribute a little more to assist the parish and the wider community as we follow our mission.
