Stewardship Reflection

Romans 5:5     God’s Love has been poured into our hearts through Holy Spirit that has been given us.

Question:  Since God’s Love has been poured into our hearts through Holy Spirit, in our everyday lives how and where can we keep that love flowing?

Trudi and Jeannette return to St. John’s

In the fall when we honoured Deacon Trudi Shaw on her retirement, we commissioned The Rev. Jeannette Stigger to write an icon of Julian of Norwich to be gifted to Trudi. Jeannette has now completed the writing and we will be presenting it to Trudi on Sunday, June 16th at the 10:00 service. Please plan to attend to give thanks to Jeannette for this work and to fulfill our farewell to Trudi.

Votive Stand in the Chapel

When lighting candles in the votive stand in the Chapel, please ensure that the matchstick is extinguished in the sand and not allowed to burn with the candle.   Thank you from the Altar Guild.

 A.C.W. Wind Up Dinner

The A.C.W. will be hosting their annual Chinese take-out, ‘wind up’ dinner on Thursday June 20th at 6pm. The cost will be $15. Please contact Sue Hall if you would like to attend.

 Bottle Recycling

Good news! Juanita, our volunteer for our bottle recycling ministry has returned and will resume periodic pickup of the bottles from the church and transportation to Biggar Bottle Enterprise in Port Coquitlam. St. John’s receives credit for each bottle recycled through this program, so thank you for your continued support.

Welcome Post Project’s Coast Salish cultural event

Friday, June 21 – National Indigenous People’s Day – Community Paddle and Feast

6:00-9:30pm, Rocky Point

The final celebration for the “Stakw – Water is Life” project. Celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day in a canoe or watch from the Rocky Point pier as Ta-ah Amy George and Cultural Leader Charlene Aleck lead a water blessing ceremony for the Burrard Inlet. Hear the different songs and witness the traditional ocean-going canoes from neighbouring First Nations. Share in a community Feast, and enjoy live entertainment and a Give Away. Please visit www.noonscreek.org for more information.

Thank-you to Debora Jones-Akiyama, Phyllis Lofgren (sister of Joanne Rippon) and Adelaine Miller for knitting the blankets that will be given to the honoured guests at the ceremony on June 21st. The blankets will be blessed at the 10:00am service on June 16th

Proteins needed for St. John’s Food Bank

Protein-rich foods are often the most expensive items for families to purchase when grocery shopping. People on limited budgets often cannot afford them and make do with stodgy foods to fill stomachs. Please help those who need them by donating the following to St. John’s Food Bank.

  • tinned salmon, tuna, chicken, beef (not all can eat pork products)
  • shelf stable nut butters
  • dried or tinned beans and peas
  • powdered or shelf-stable milks
  • meaty stews or soups
  • cans of vegetables

Bring your offerings on Sunday, arrange with the office to drop off during the week, or give some money to this ministry towards the purchase of fresh products.
