* A Spirited Community at the heart of Port Moody
* transformed through the experience of the presence of Christ
* and sent out to share God’s Love”
Upcoming Dates
Tuesday Jan 15 10:15am – noon, Bible Study in the parish hall
Thank you
A big shout out to all the folks who volunteered to pick up Food Bank donations from Costco during the Christmas season. Thank you to Anne Adair-Austin, Heather Barron, Jerome Daniel, Susan Meredith, Lynne Milner and Ruby Ng.
Epiphany Star Words
If you haven’t already, be sure to pick up a yellow Epiphany star this Sunday. Each of these stars contain a word to meditate on for 2019 – it’s a fun way to pay attention to what God might be saying to you in this new year! If for some reason you really don’t connect to the star word that you picked, feel free to exchange it for another. There should be enough stars so that if some of you wish to take an extra one for a friend or family member too, you can.
AdventWord Meditations
Check out the binder of our community’s wonderful AdventWord meditations if you didn’t get a chance to read through all of them in December, or would like to spend more time with them. The binder will be available in the back of the church for the next few weeks.
School for Parish Development
Do you feel called to learn practical ways to work with others in our parish to grow and support ministries here at St. John’s? Looking to develop and add to your skills in ministry and organizational development? Open to getting to know and partner with others excited about mission and ministry growth from our diocese and elsewhere? St. John’s is looking to send a team of people to be part of our diocese’s School for Parish Development this year and in future years – there is a summer one-week option and a 4-weekends option (beginning shortly). See more information about the program at https://www.vancouver.anglican.ca/parish-development/school-for-parish-development, and talk to Ruby, Geri, or Vivian if you’re interested in this possibility.
St. Stephen’s Trivia Night
St. Stephen’s, Burnaby is hosting a Trivia Night on Saturday, Jan. 26, 7pm (doors open 6:30pm) to raise funds to replace the front door to their worship space. They are challenging neighbouring Anglican parishes to send a winning team! They are accepting teams of up to 8 people, $20 registration per person. Snacks, desserts, tea, and coffee will be served, there will be a cash bar, and there are prizes and bragging rights to be claimed! To register your team, email ststbby@shaw.ca.
Stewardship Reflection
From the song Open My Eyes – “Silently now I wait for thee, Ready, my God, thy will to see, Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit Divine. “
Prayer by Dr. Charles Stanley
“Dear Lord, as we rise to meet each new day, please let us be filled with your spirit. Wherever we go, let us spread love, joy, peace, goodness and faithfulness. Let us desire to become more like you and to worship you in all we do. Amen.
Deanery Re-Sponse committee
We are excited to report that The Deanery Re-Sponse committee (which helps support refugee families), continues to meet monthly while we wait for the arrival of our second refugee family!
We are at the stage where we are looking for a volunteer to help create a website. The content for the website has been determined but we need someone to design and/or maintain the website. If you are able to help us with this, please speak to Mary Lou or send an e-mail to: maryloukyle1234@gmail.com Thank you.
Proteins needed for St. Johns Food Bank
Protein-rich foods are often the most expensive items for families to purchase when grocery shopping. People on limited budgets often cannot afford them, and make do with stodgy foods to fill stomachs. Please help those who need them by donating the following to St. Johns Food Bank in January:
- tinned salmon, tuna, chicken, beef (not all can eat pork products)
- shelf stable nut butters
- dried or tinned beans and peas
- powdered or shelf stable milks
- meaty stews or soups
- cans of vegetables
Bring your offerings on Sunday, drop off during the week Monday through Thursday 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, or give some money to this ministry towards the purchase of fresh products.
Prayer Cycle
The Anglican Church, the Diocese of New Westminster, Archbishop Melissa Skelton;
This week:
