Greeting from your Priest-in-Charge

Dear Friends:

It is my great pleasure to write to you for the first time as your Priest-in-Charge.  I am very excited that for the next 12 weeks we will journey together in faith, continuing the preparation for the arrival of your new Rector. During this time, amongst other things, we will worship together, we will share new beginnings as we experience Fall start-up, we will celebrate the blessings that God has bestowed, and continues to bestow, upon the Church of St. John the Apostle (including being together for Harvest and National Thanksgiving), we will address the issues of Stewardship and Outreach, and we will ensure that the business of the parish is developed and maintained in good order.  But more than anything else, together we will rejoice in our Christian beliefs and fellowship.  Everything we do will be God-initiated and Christ-centred, and through the Power of the Holy Spirit we will seek the love of God and of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  I am truly delighted to be in your midst, and look forward to this Sunday, when I will be with you for the first time as we gather together as a worshipping community.

Blessings to you all.

Tim Morgan+

It will be held at the backyard of the PMC but tables and chairs will be setup inside the hall in case of rain. You may want to bring your picnic chairs!!!

You are welcome to bring desserts and fruits. THE PURPLE SPOON contest for the best dessert will be held.

Deacon Trudi Shaw retires from St. John’s.

Trudi came to St. John’s in 2003.  During her 15 years in this community Trudi has shared with us her deep wisdom in so many areas. These have included mentoring in EfM, Teaching Icon writing, spiritual guidance, prayer ministry, liturgical arts, Vacation Bible School, Godly Play, preaching, bringing to our attention issues of social justice, seniors ministry and especially in pastoral care among many others. Trudi’s presence at St. John’s has been a real blessing to this community and she has touched many of us very deeply.

On Sunday SEPTEMBER 9th we will be sending Trudi off onto her new journey into retirement. We will honour her at the parish BBQ after the 10:00 service.

Please plan to attend to share your best wishes with Trudi.

Stewardship Reflection

Galatians 3:11

Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law; for “The one who is righteous will live by faith”.

The Prayer of Faith

God is my help in every need; God does my every hunger feed: God walks beside me, guides my way

through every moment of the day. I now am wise, I now am true, patient, kind and loving too.   All things I am, can do and be, through Christ, the truth that is in me. God is my health, I can’t be sick; God is my strength’ unfailing quick; God is my all, I know no fear, since God and love and truth are here.  Hannah More Kohaus

Question:  How can this prayer of faith help you in your stewardship this week?

A Big Thank you to Lance and Sharon Cooper

Many thanks to Lance and Sharon Cooper for the wonderful work they have done with the church pews!  They look beautiful.

Proteins needed for St. Johns Food Bank

Protein-rich foods are often the most expensive items for families to purchase when grocery shopping.  People on limited budgets often cannot afford them, and make do with stodgy foods to fill stomachs.   Please help those who need them by donating the following to St. Johns Food Bank in August:

  • tinned salmon, tuna, chicken, beef (not all can eat pork products)

  • shelf stable nut butters

  • dried or tinned beans and peas

  • powdered or shelf stable milks

  • meaty stews or soups

Bring your offerings on Sunday, drop off during the week Monday through Thursday 9 am to 1 pm, or give some money to this ministry towards the purchase of fresh products.

Flowers for the Altar

The Altar Guild would like to draw your attention to the flower chart in the Narthex by the Chapel door.  Please consider signing up to place flowers at the Altar in thanksgiving for something, or in loving memory of a family member or friend.  A member of the Altar Guild will contact you the week before the date you have chosen to see what type of flowers you would like and the wording for the Bulletin.  The following weeks are still open October 21 & 28, November 4 & 25, December 2, 16 & 23.  Thank you.
