Dear Friends:

As we continue the month of November, the Season of Advent will soon be upon us.  As the Reverend Vivian Lam prepares to take on her duties as Rector, she has asked for the congregation to be made aware of her intention to hold two Study Groups each week during Advent; one on Tuesday mornings, at the time of our present Bible Study, and the other following services on Sundays.  The Diocese has suggested study materials entitled “Living in the Edge”, the content being outlined below.  In these weeks leading up to Vivian’s arrival, you are asked to consider joining one of these weekly groups. Your participation will be a wonderful way to prepare yourself for the celebration of Jesus’ birth.

I wish you every blessing.

Reverend Tim Morgan

How do we find our way when one thing is ending and another thing is beginning? In the great joys and sorrows of our lives, and in the economic, political and climatic changes of our world, how do we live in the in-between? Maybe you’re wondering what’s next for you in life and what God is calling you to do. How do you look and listen for God’s leading when you’re not sure what is ahead? This in-between place can be a place full of challenge and also surprising new life. This Advent, explore the edges of life through images of edge habitat, birth, and the places where we encounter our neighbour.

Revamping of the STJA Website

The wardens are working with an IT software volunteer to give our website a much needed face-lift. If you are in charge of a ministry group, you will be hearing from us to review and update current information.  Immediate attention required would be the Programs and Group Information.   Please click on the link http://www.stja.ca/about/programs/ to view.

A.C.W. meeting: Thursday November 15th at 1.30p.m.

Please note the change of time for this meeting as we are now on our winter schedule of meeting up in the afternoons. We are no longer collecting the shoebox gift parcels for the Christmas outreach at the Mission to seafarers as they now have a different system for handing out gifts parcels. We have decided to make a financial donation instead and some of our members will go out and purchase appropriate gifts in bulk. Please bring your financial donation to the meeting.

The A.C.W. are collecting ‘Hot Socks’ again this year for the Mission to Seafarers. If you would like to contribute to this outreach there will be a basket at the back of the church to collect the socks in. The socks should be ‘heavy duty’ and contain a wool blend.

Potluck lunch – Sunday, Nov. 18

There will be Potluck lunch after the 10 am service to thank and celebrate Rev. Tim’s time with us.  Sign up sheets are in the church hall.

Birthday Party – November 19 at 1:00 p.m.

The Senior’s Tea group has decided to change their focus to Parish members and as such have decided to host a birthday party for all parish members who have reached the marvelous age of 80 or over, with birthdays occurring October to December, 2018.

We will be meeting Nov. 19th at 1:00pm for lunch and cake with time for visiting with friends.

If you have not received an invitation by Nov. 7th and you are part of this select group please let me know.

If you are a senior and wish to join us for lunch and to help celebrate also let me know.  You are most welcome but we do need to know numbers so that no one will go hungry.

RSVP to Ferne Malcolm by email at kmalcolm@telus .net or by phone 604 939-2807 by Nov. 14th

Proteins needed for St. Johns Food Bank Thanksgiving

Protein-rich foods are often the most expensive items for families to purchase when grocery shopping.  People on limited budgets often cannot afford them, and make do with stodgy foods to fill stomachs.   Please help those who need them by donating the following to St. Johns Food Bank in November:

  • tinned salmon, tuna, chicken, beef (not all can eat pork products)

  • shelf stable nut butters

  • dried or tinned beans and peas

  • powdered or shelf stable milks

  • meaty stews or soups

  • cans of mixed vegetables

Bring your offerings on Sunday, drop off during the week Monday through Thursday 9 am to 1 pm, or give some money to this ministry towards the purchase of fresh products.
