Education for Ministry or Exploring Faith Matters
Have you ever thought it might be nice to spend some disciplined time in:

Reading Scripture and about Church History
Reflecting on these readings
Responding and discussing these with others through Theological Reflection
Discerning the implications of these on your life.

Then perhaps the EfM course may be for you
This four-year program is offered through EfM Canada at St. John’s Port Moody.
This year our focus will be “Living Faithfully in the Global Village”
Weekly we share community, worship, food and enriched discussion
Wednesday evenings September – May 6:45 – 9:15pm
If you are interested please contact Anne Anchor – a.anchor@telus.net

Stewardship Reflection
“Another morning and I awake with thirst for the goodness I do not have. I walk out to the pond and all the way God has given us such beautiful lessons. Oh Lord, I was never a quick scholar but hunched over my books past the hour and the bell. Grant me in your mercy, a little more time. Love for the earth and love for you are having such a long conversation in my heart. Who knows what will happen or where I will be sent, yet already I have given a great many things away expecting to be told to pack nothing except the prayers which, with this thirst, I am slowly learning.” Mary Oliver
Question: In our stewardship, are we listening with our heart to what God’s will is for us?

Garage Sale Help Needed – Saturday, August 18 – 9 AM – 3 PM
Bob Kuhn has kindly volunteered to take the lead on organizing a garage sale. This is a great opportunity to declutter your house and get rid of items you haven’t used in a while or don’t need any more. Please drop off your items at the parish ministry centre between 9am and 1pm Monday to Thursday or bring them in on Sunday morning. No furniture, mattresses or electronics please.

Bob is looking for 2 others to work with him; one to help with organization and pricing, and one to help with refreshments on the day of the sale. Please contact Bob Kuhn at (604) 401-1913 or email at bobandkristinkuhn@gmail.com.

There will be a sign-up sheet posted Sunday for volunteers to sign up to help. Bob will print some flyers for people to take and post wherever they think might be helpful. Thanks in advance to everyone for helping make this event successful.

Goodie Donations for Sunday Coffee Time
Please consider donating goodies for the Sunday coffee times. There is a signup sheet in the kitchen. Even an offer of help every six months would be greatly appreciated!

A.C.W. Outreach Collection
If you are clearing out your closets this summer, please consider donating clean, gently used clothing and bedding to the A.C.W. Bales To The North outreach program. You can leave items outside the corner cupboard in the stage area. We are always in need of blankets and men’s clothing. Please label them ‘used clothing/bedding for A.C.W. We are also collecting: used stamps, used eye glasses, aluminum pull tabs and travel size toiletries for various other outreach programs. These can be placed in the collection baskets on the shelf in the church hall. With Thanks ~ A.C.W.

Rectory Working Group
On June 13, 2018, Diocesan Council formally gave permission to the parish of St. John the Apostle to proceed with the sale of the Napier Street property in Burnaby and to invest in a new rectory property closer to the parish church.

A working group has been formed to manage the sale and purchase. Should you have skills in the following areas and like to be involved, please let Michael Lau, Anne Anchor, Terry Walton, John Binns or Rich Thompson know.

  • familiarity with municipal regulations
  • real estate experience
  • legal experience
  • experience with tenanted properties

Summer GODLY PLAY and how you can help
This summer, once again, we are simplifying our children’s program. Over 7 weeks they will be gathering in the Nursery room for a shortened time together. We will have a story from the Strong Stories series of the Coast Salish and do some wondering about similarities in our faith traditions and these stories. If we have seven people volunteering we will have many hands making light work.
Please contact Christina or Anne Anchor through the church office at stjohn7@shaw.ca if you are able to help.

Liturgical Ministries
Rotas for helpers in the Liturgical Ministries are in the process of being made and will be available shortly. Please check your email or pick up the lists from the table in the Narthex.

Traffic and Parking Changes on Douglas Street
A reminder that you can park on Douglas Street on Sundays but not during the rest of the week due to construction.
