Designated donations made to PWRDF for “Pakistan floods” will be eligible for matching by the Government of Canada through the “Pakistan Floods Relief Fund”, set up on August 22, 1010. In announcing the fund, the Government stated: “In order to better respond to the needs of the people of Pakistan and to more effectively match the generosity of Canadians, the Government of Canada will match eligible donations made from August 2 until September 12, 2010. For every donation by Canadians to registered Canadian charities responding to the Pakistan Floods, the Government of Canada will contribute an equivalent amount to the Pakistan Floods Relief Fund”.
The best way to respond as a parish would be for individual parish members to send their cheques directly to PWRDF, clearly marked for “Pakistan Floods”.

PWRDF works with CanadaHelps, a registered charity, to accept donations electronically using your credit card and their secure website. Giving through CanadaHelps is easy, fast and direct for donors and it saves costs for PWRDF.
Each individual contribution (with name and address supplied) will be matched by the Government of Canada. If you receive a cash donation via the envelope, a tax receipt can be issued in the normal fashion by the envelope secretary but it will only be matched by the government if a list of individual donors (names, addresses & the amount) is sent with the cheque issued by the parish.
If the treasurer receives and forwards the total amount given by a parish to the Synod office for onward transmission, it cannot be matched by the Government unless a sheet with names and addresses of each donor is attached. Thus, we encourage you NOT to send Pakistan Relief donations to the Synod Office. The best way is to mail it to PWRDF directly, with a separate cheque.
